Nik Collection

The Nik Collection used to be a set of commercial applications used by photographers to enhance their images.

Google bought the company and eventually made their software free, so you can now use the Nik Collection free of charge.

The collection allows you to quickly add effects to your images to make the colours pop, or increase the contrast in very particular ways. There are also tools to do things like give your images a film look, or improve their sharpness.

While there are roundabout ways to use the applications on their own, they are intended to be used in tandem with applications like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements (budget option), and Adobe Lightroom.
